The Best of Bristol: What to See and Do in the Incredible Harbour City
Bristol is a fantastic city. I mean really, truly phenomenal. Over the entire month we spent in Bristol, there was hardly a day we werenāt out exploring. Weād eat at outstanding restaurants, drink cider in centuries-old pubs, check out unique museums and galleries, and then drink some stout ā in centuries-old pubs. Initially, we were going to write a full-on Best of Bristol article here, but favourite restaurants alone make up their own (soon to arrive) post. So weāll stick ā¦
9 Reasons that Bristol is a Perfect Alternative to London
Look, we love London. Itās up there with some of our favourite cities in the world. Every time weāre in the country, we spend time in London. Recently, however, our attention was pulled west, to Bristol. And I gotta say, after a month living in the harbour city, I can confidently say that Bristol is the perfect alternative to visiting London. Iām not saying Bristol is better than London (I canāt imagine the hate-mail weād receive by that statement); though ā¦
North Street Bristolās Best Restaurants, Cafes and Pubs
Before arriving in Bristol, North Street was simply part of an address where weād be housesitting for a month. It was a street on a map, a short walk from Spike island and the Bristol harbour. The homeowners had assured us that weād have no issue finding a place to eat nearby. This turned out to be a bit of an understatement. As it turned out, there are dozens of North Street Bristol restaurants ā all within 20 minutes by ā¦
Bristol was the Break we Didnāt Know we Needed
Monday. 01-07-19. London, England. We hadnāt stopped moving in four months. The longest we stayed in a single place, and slept in the same bed, was a stretch of eleven days in Moldova. The notion of an entire month in Bristol, with a whole house to ourselves, was terrific. Our bags could be completely unpacked, their contents stored in an actual closet. We could catch up on so much work! Our intentions, however, fell short of their mark. We didnāt ā¦
9 Awesome Additions to your London Itinerary
London is an epic city, one of the all-time greats. Itās a city where you could spend years exploring and never do the same activity twice. Yet, many of us as travellers rarely spend more than a few days at a time here. If youāre like most visitors to London youāll probably only have a few short days to take in all you can. Though our initial plan was to put together a nice packaged London itinerary for you, we ā¦
House Sitting in Epsom, England
Chances are youāve never heard of magnesium sulphate. Itās much more likely you know it by its common name: Epsom salts. Now, other than one of the earliest discoveries of this compound being discovered in the town of Epsom, this is the last weāll be talking about that. We rolled into Epsom on the Southwestern Rail train from Waterloo station just before noon. I think it was noon, our phone said so at least. For Kylee and I, it could ā¦
Recipe: Toad in the Hole
The names of dishes are always an interesting point of discussion. Since the beginning of modern cuisine, there hasnāt ever been a standard set regarding the naming of food. Itās an open game, anything goes. During our time in England recently, we encountered the whole spectrum almost immediately. Often itās a simple and very literal description of the plate. Fish and chips with mushy peas, for example, you know exactly what youāre going to get. An example from the other ā¦
London
With just under a week remaining in the trip, the mood is bittersweet. Any time a journey is reaching itās end, one canāt help but feel uneasy, the excitement and freedom is soon to be replaced once again with work and schedules. Itās been a hectic journey to this point, with a lot of stops crammed into a fairly short window of time, but thereās still one final stop that Iād been looking forward to for a very long time. ā¦
Dinner by Heston: A Michelin-Starred Hangover
This one time, in London, we spent over $300 to cure a hangover. It was quite possibly the best ā and most expensive ā lunch weāve ever eaten. And it was worth every penny. Flashback to the previous evening. We went out for supper with our friend at Upstairs at the Ten Bells. It was a great meal in itself, but as it often happens, a meal turns into drinks. A couple hours later we find ourselves hanging out at ā¦
